As some may or may not have noticed there is now a Countdown on the side of the page. Who can guess what it is counting down to? Here's a hint: it is to something that has been quite absent in my life for the last 4 years or so. |

That's right folks, Columbia. My summer training as a 68W (aka 'Health Care Specialist' aka 'Combat Medic') with the 328th CSH (Ft. Douglas, SLC UT) will be spent aboard the USNS Comfort. I honestly can't tell you much about this mission because I have not been given details. What I do know is to expect working jointly with Navy, Air Force, and Marines to administar aid to those under our care. I have also been told to prepare for 12hr on/12hr off days the whole time I'm there. There isn't a lot to do on the ship and we are unsure if we will be allowed off of it. I plan to spend most of my time in the gym, stretching more than lifting weights in preparation of possibly getting back into something that I loved doing as a kid. I won't tell you right now what that activity is, but I'll give you hint by dropping a last name for those in the know> 'Tobin'.
$10 to the first person to read this and tell me they want $10. $20 to the first person to guess the activity correctly |

Em got her very first rifle for her birthday this year, a Smith & Wesson M&P15T. We took it up to Wy this weekend and shot it for the very first time. Firing standard .223 target loads at 100 yards the rifle was dead on accurate right out of the box. The rifle itself is quite lightweight but the kick was almost non existent compared to a military issue M16. Hopefully this weekend we'll have a chance to buy some accessories for it (sling/holosight/vert-handle) and take some pictures to share. Until then, happy shooting folks! |

This is my permanent reminder that no-one will carry me through life but me.
For at least 5 years now I have thought about this tattoo. What should it be, where should it be, how should it look, why do it? The 'SC' with the attaching curve is my own design I created about 6-7 years ago, a symbol that was strictly me. I chose my shoulder for the tattoo for the meaning of carrying myself, and also so it would not show in everyday attire (unprofessional in my opinion). The tribal work was done by a local artist to help it wrap my shoulder and flow with my body. The red/black fading is a favorite pattern of mine and was something I really wanted to do so as not to just have another black tribal tattoo like many others. Yes this is quite the permanent reminder of something I should be able to remember without it, but I also believe in experiencing as many things in life as possible and this was on my list (skydiving or bungee jumping is next). |
